2 soldiers, 29 Tamil Tigers killed in Lanka clashes

In an ongoing conflict between the Tamil Tigers and the security forces, at least 29 LTTE cadres and two soldiers were killed in intense battles across the embattled Northern Sri Lanka on Friday.

At least two LTTE cadres were killed by the mortar attacks and sniper shots launched throughout the day in Muhamalai in Jaffna on Thursday, Indian official media reported quotin Lankan military said.

Separately six LTTE cadres were killed and four others were wounded in an incident in Kuruvichchanalvu area in Vavuniya on Thursday, it said.

Two tiger militants were gunned down in Wedatakulam area in Vavuniya, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said.

As many as three tiger rebels were shot dead in Periyamadu North area in Vavuniya, it said.

At least two LTTE militants were shot dead and another wounded during an ambush sprung by troops in general area of Kayamoddai in Vavuniya, the Defence Ministry said.

Separately, troops killed two LTTE rebels in Udayadi in Mannar, the officials said adding another LTTE cadre was killed in Nedunkandal in the region on the same day.

Three LTTE cadres were killed in battles throughout the day in Palamudi in Mannar, the MCNS said adding a soldier also laid his life in the incident.

Another soldier lost his life in Thaimudey in Mannar, the MCNS said adding seven LTTE cadres were killed in North-eastern Welioya region.

Meanwhile, one LTTE cadre was killed in Neelepola east in Eastern Trincomalee, the military said.
