An armoured cab for the TC-54

Eurosatory, 16 June 2008

To adapt its range to new threats, Panhard has decided to offer an armoured cab for the TC-54. In recent years engagements have shown that support units are almost as exposed to danger as forward units. Thanks to the armoured cab, the crew benefit from STANAG Level 2 protection but also protection against mines (STANAG Level 3) and improvised explosive devices. With the ‘V’ profile of the cab floor, fragments and blast are diverted to the sides, thus protecting the embarked personnel from the worst of the blast.

The cab represents an extra weight of about 700 kg and can accommodate a two-man crew. The armour protection also enables a remotely-controlled weapon to be installed on the cab roof, such as the WASP, developed by Panhard and Sagem.

This 4x4 truck, now in series production, has been developed to meet the specific requirements of the forces in the logistic domain. The TC 54 has the best payload/weight ratio in this category of vehicles. Its military load of 5 tonnes is in fact higher than its empty weight of 4.4 tonnes. This technical performance, achieved by the choice of innovative architecture, represents substantial savings for the client throughout the life of the vehicle, as well as an improved operational capability.

The TC 54 comes in many varieties: command vehicles, box-bodies, resupply missions and troop transport. The vehicle will soon enter service with the armed forces of a Middle Eastern country. It will be used for logistic missions in support of 155 mm artillery units.
