The PVP family gets bigger

Eurosatory, 16 June 2008

With the entry of the PVP into service with the French Army, Panhard has developed a complete range of vehicles to meet operational requirements. The PVP/HD (Heavy Duty) and the PVP/XL join a family of vehicles ranging from 5 to 12 tonnes combat weight.

These two new arrivals to the family, the PVP/HD and the PVP/XL, follow the same design principles as the PVP, with an armoured hull fitted to a chassis. Profiting from its experience, Panhard has designed a chassis architecture which allows an interior volume comparable to that of a monocoque vehicle. The interior volume of the PVP is 4.5m3, that of the PVP/HD 6.5m 3 and the PV/XL offers from 8 to 11m3, depending on the version.

The military payload is of the order of 800 kg, that of the PVP/HD exceeds 2 tonnes and that of the PVP/XL reaches 3 tonnes. The PVP family can thus transport loads ranging from a 3 man anti-tank team to a full infantry section in the case of the PVP/XL. This complementarity enables Panhard to offer complete solutions for the deployment of weapon systems or battlefield surveillance systems.

One of the strengths of this range of course remains the protection offered, in excess of Level 2 (STANAG 4569) for the base PVP vehicle, Level 3 for the PVP/HD and up to Level 4 for the PVP/XL. Tests reproducing the effect of an improvised explosive device have demonstrated that the PVP range of vehicles is very well protected. Similarly, the underside of the vehicle has been designed to minimise the effects of a mine, in particular by avoiding blast traps.

The vehicles of this family are of interest to many security forces. The PVP, equipped with a radar, has been offered in response to many requests for bids in the field of frontier surveillance, while a derivative of the PVP/XL, designed for peace keeping missions, has been entered in the competition for the gendarmerie armoured vehicle (VBG).
