ELTA Systems Group Announces New "Future Soldier" Products
Jun 16, 2008
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI)'s ELTA Systems Group and Subsidiary, and Elta's subsidiary Optigo Systems, announce the launch of three new electro-optical products designed to be employed by ground combat forces in future asymmetric and symmetric conflicts.
These systems are based on a new innovative multi-wave Infra-Red (IR) patent pending technology:
* TED – Transient Event Detection System
* SAMANTHA – Thermal Beam Tactical Flashlight
* TAL – Thermal Aiming Laser
TED is a persistent, day and night, surveillance system with a wide field-of-regard, designed to effectively detect IR transients from gunshots. TED detects the gunshot and takes a snapshot to immediately detect the direction and source, allowing the combat soldier to quickly respond to enemy fire. This easy-to-use system can be operated in various environments including urban areas and open areas, in a stationary position or on-the-move.
SAMANTHA is a directive tactical flashlight, emitting multi-wave IR, invisible to the naked eye and to night goggles. Samantha is used day and night to identify and mark the position of friendly forces. The flashlight can be seen by Forward-Looking IR (FLIR) vision systems. It is used to prevent fratricide fire and exchange messages between friendly forces.
TAL is a handheld laser aiming device emitting an invisible multi-wave IR laser beam that can be seen only by systems with FLIRs. Combat forces can mark a target simply by pointing the TAL at it.
Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. is a recognized leader in the aerospace and defense industry and Israel’s largest industrial exporter. ELTA Systems Ltd., a group and wholly owned subsidiary of IAI, is one of Israel's leading defense electronics companies and a leader in Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR), Early Warning and Control, Home-Land Security (HLS), Self-Protection and Self-Defense and Fire Control application.
