DIEGO GARCIA (NNS) -- Diego Garcia welcomed new leadership June 3, after a change of command ceremony held at Jake's Place.

Capt. Daniel T. McNamara replaced Capt. Gregory L. Looney as commanding officer, Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia.

Looney leaves Diego Garcia and is heading to United States Northern Command in Colorado Springs, Colo.

During the ceremony McNamara expressed how he looked forward to the coming year and commended Looney on turning over a great place which he is looking forward to leading.

Before coming to the island, McNamara served in Patuxent River, Md., at the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft Program as the Deputy Program Manager for both the P-3 Antisurface Warfare Improvement Program (AIP) and the P-3 C4 for ASW Program.

McNamara graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. In 2006, he received a Master of Science Degree in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

McNamara's personal awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and various other individual and unit decorations.
