USS SHOUP, At Sea (NNS) -- The commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 150, visited USS Shoup (DDG 86) on May 9.

French Rear Adm. Jean-Louis Kerignard discussed operations in CTF 150, toured the ship spaces and addressed the ship's crew.

"CTF 150 is making a difference," Kerignard said. "We are working together to conduct operations that counter illicit activities in the maritime arena to create a lawful maritime order."

Close cooperation between coalition ships and an understanding of the assets each one provides is essential to the success of CTF 150 operations, he added.

CTF 150, part of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), is a multinational task force charged with maintaining continuous coalition presence and conducts Maritime Security Operations southwest of the Straits of Hormuz in the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.

CMF has a common purpose and goal, to increase the security and prosperity of the region by working together for a better future. To accomplish this CMF is working to defeat terrorism, prevent piracy, reduce illegal trafficking of people and drugs, and promote the maritime environment as a safe place for mariners with legitimate business.

Shoup's Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Michael J. Lehman said the meeting was a valuable opportunity to exchange information and perspectives in multinational operations in the CTF 150 area of responsibility.

"Shoup is privileged to be working with our coalition partners to provide maritime security in this region," Lehman said. "CTF 150 is doing important work. The very nature of some of our operations, as well as the successes of those operations, is often predicated on our ability to work effectively with our partners and allies."
