India-Myanmar-Operation Sahayata
As part of operation 'Sahayata' (Help) for Myanmar, two Indian Air Force (IAF) planes Wednesday airlifted relief supplies to cyclone-hit nation.

The AN-32 aircraft carried medicines and tents for the affected people, devastated by the severe cyclone 'Nargis'. Besides, two Indian Navy ships carrying medicines, food, tents and clothing have already reached the capital Yangon, said an official release issued here today.

INS Rana and Kirpan left Port Blair Monday (May 5) night and, latest reports said, the ships were anchored four miles off harbor at 0500 hours this morning, awaiting offloading by Myanmar authorities.

India has been at the forefront of countries to rise up to the aid of Myanmar in this hour of crisis. The cyclone 'Nargis' devastated large parts of Myanmar on the night of May 2.

More than 20,000 people are feared dead and several thousands rendered homeless.

Indian government has conveyed condolence to the government of Myanmar and the Indian armed forces have mobilized a comprehensive relief package under Operation Sahayata. The Integrated Defense Staff (IDS) plans to despatch another relief aircraft soon.
