GULFPORT, Miss. (NNS) -- To ensure Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 7 Seabees receive the maximum amount of training possible, Convoy Security Element (CSE) teams held after-hours training April 29 through May 2.
During the extended working hours, the teams worked on obtaining their Highly Mobile Multi-Wheel Vehicle training and licensing.
With only 27 out of 58 team members having their licenses prior to the training, the CSE teams had the ultimate goal of ensuring 100 percent of their members are licensed by May 10.
"This was a terrific idea; it gives the team a really great jump start on ensuring 100 percent mission readiness," said Construction Electrician 2nd Class Michael Brophy, a NMCB 7 CSE team member. "Although the hours conflict with the time the troops have to spend with their families, everyone is being very cooperative. They know that doing this training now will save them from working longer hours later."
The CSE teams also got an additional bonus to their efforts April 30 and May 1, when team members were able to see how communications work in a convoy. NMCB 7 held a communications exercise during those two days and CSE teams were driving around Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, utilizing their communications equipment to confer with the command operations center.
"As you can now see, NMCB 7's CSE teams will be better prepared for their upcoming formal training, battalion field exercise and their five month deployment to CENTCOM [Central Command]," said Construction Mechanic 3rd Class Thomas Weber.
