Eurosatory 2008: Thales's response to new defence and security challenges

14 April 2008

This tradeshow will offer the company a unique opportunity to showcase its latest innovations in the defence and security areas.

The past years have led to many changes in the Defense sector. New threats, budget constraints, innovative approaches have resulted in military and security forces, procurement agencies and industrial companies reviewing the way they worked.

Present in more than 50 countries around the world and working for the most advanced forces, Thales has acquired a unique overview and experience of these major changes in the environment.

"Eurosatory 2008 will clearly be a major landmark for Thales", says Bruno Rambaud, VP Thales, Director of the Land & Joint Systems Division. "During these past years the Group has confirmed its leading position in the Land environment. Not only have we been associated with large programs such as FRES in the UK, but we are also involved in many key projects for various forces around the world. This demonstrates that many countries are confident in our ability to bring them efficient, innovative, reliable solutions. We are very proud of that".

At the Eurosatory Exhibition, Thales will feature a 1500 m² stand divided into 5 key areas:
- Short range combat: dedicated to solutions developed for soldiers including micro-drones, combat radios and night vision goggles, as well as Thales solutions designed for FRES (Future Rapid Effect System developed by the UK) and the @simov concept vehicle.
- Long range combat: this area will present Thales's solutions for air support and fire support. This ranges from the 2R2M, a mobile mortar system, to an on-board system and equipment developed for air platforms such as NH90 and Tiger helicopters, A400M or the Rafale.
- Force and Homeland protection: this area will present the latest innovations developed by Thales in this domain including Spectre, a Local Area Control System for forces' protection, and solutions for border surveillance, including the Homeland Alerter 100.
- Information Dominance: from sensor to satellite to C4I systems, this area will display Thales's solutions allowing information to circulate rapidly and efficiently from the sensor to the decision-maker. Interoperability and intelligence will be the key words of this zone. This area will present Flexnet, the Software Defined Radio, for the first time.
- Integrated support: budget constraints and new threats lead military and security forces to redefine their missions and their approaches. By simplifying through-life capability management or facilitating the outsourcing of some activities, Thales helps forces to adapt to their new environment.
