PENSACOLA, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $45.8 million contract on March 4 to NTF, L.L.C., a large business joint venture of Opus South and Whitesell-Green of Pensacola, Fla. for design and construction of a new facility for the U.S. Air Force at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola.

The project provides for the construction of a hurricane protected multi-aircraft hangar and navigator training school with classrooms to accommodate relocations of the U.S. Air Force Combat Systems Operator training.

"Not only will the new hangar and instruction facility add to the joint mission at NAS Pensacola, but it will also have a positive impact on the economy of Escambia County as new jobs will be created and more dollars will be spent in the local community," said Harry White, NAS Pensacola public affairs officer.

In addition to designing and building the hangar and training school, the work includes building an apron and runway connectors as well as sun shelters for additional aircraft.

All work will be performed aboard the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. and final construction and site cleanup is scheduled for Nov. 6, 2009.
