USS BOXER, At Sea (NNS) -- USS Boxer (LHD 4) won the 2007 Battle Effectiveness Battle "E" award announced March 6 by Commander Naval Surface Forces.
The Battle "E" is a 12-month, fleet-wide competition, which recognizes ships that demonstrate the highest state of readiness and ability to execute wartime tasks including weapons employment, tactics and handling and the ability to fulfill mission objectives.
"Earning one of our Navy's most prestigious command awards, the Battle 'E,' marks another achievement in Boxer's proud legacy," Boxer Commanding Officer, Capt. Matthew J. McCloskey said.
Ships competing for the Battle "E" are graded in six areas: Maritime warfare; engineering and survivability; command and control; communications and information warfare and logistics management.
"This award is not for just one division or department, but the combined effort of every Sailor on Boxer who worked together to achieve this success," McCloskey said. "It also reinforces my belief that when every member of our team works together and executes our mission, our efforts will and do get recognized."
The Battle "E" competition is designed to evaluate and strengthen both command and overall force readiness and to recognize overall outstanding command performance.
The criterion for the Battle "E" is the overall readiness of the crew to carry out its assigned wartime tasks, performing as an effective part of the fleet.
"Winning the Battle 'E' is validation of the command's high standards and the hard work Boxer Sailors dedicate to the ship every day," said McCloskey.
This is the sixth Battle "E" earned by Boxer.
