BEAUFORT, S.C. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $49.3 million contract to Ahtna Technical Service, Inc., a small business out of Anchorage, Alaska, on March 3 for Multifunction Facilities Support Services at the Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort.
"Most air station personnel should not notice a change in services. There will be a new contractor in charge with a new name, but if you have problems with facilities services on base, you'll dial the same numbers," said Cmdr. Ronald Kramps, resident officer in charge of construction Beaufort. Kramps noted residents and employees will see no difference in the services provided.
The work to be performed provides for labor, supervision, management, equipment and transportation necessary to provide facilities support services, including facility investment and pest control, utilities, including electrical and steam, and base support vehicles and equipment.
This is a new 10-year contract following the footsteps of a similar and very successful five-year contract for the air station that will be completed on April 1. The new contract involves a business partnership of a small business with the incumbent contractor and will commence April 2.
"This award demonstrates our commitment to this policy while providing best acquisition solutions to meet our clients needs," said NAVFAC Southeast Deputy for Small Business Robin Brown.
Maximum practicable utilization of small business concerns is a matter of national interest with both social and economic benefits. America's 27 million small businesses - employ more that 58 percent of the private work force, generates more than 51 percent of the nation's gross domestic product, and are the principal source of new jobs.
