Thales named Australia's Top Defence Contractor

27 February 2008

With turnover of $757.5 million, Thales enjoyed another successful year that included delivering world-class APEC accreditation and security systems, receiving an order for 399 additional Bushmaster vehicles from the ADF, delivering the most sophisticated simulator for the AIR 87 Tiger helicopter worldwide, and the successful firing of the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile from HMAS Sydney.

Chris Jenkins, Thales Australia's managing director, said: 'We're very proud to again be named the number one defence contractor in Australia. It's testament to the continued service we offer to the Australian Defence Force, the capability and depth of experience we offer and the dedicated efforts of our employees.'

Chris, who addressed the conference about evaluating priorities for the future as a prime defence contractor, spoke about improving the agility of Thales to adapt and operate more efficiently in the future, as well as the company's commitment to creating partnerships with SMEs and other prime defence contractors to deliver
high-end defence capabilities. 'We are creating open minds who are ready to work within the total of the defence industry. One of Thales's strengths lies in its ability to work in complex, demanding environments, and partner with others to deliver successful outcomes.'

Chris added: 'I am confident that this will be a year of significant progress for Thales, and am excited about working with Defence, the DMO and other defence industry businesses and associations to evolve the strategic defence capabilities of this country.'
