UK Death-Afghanistan
One British solider has been killed and another injured, while on foot patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced Monday.

It said both soldiers, who were caught in an explosion, were taken to Camp Bastion, where one was pronounced dead on arrival. The injuries on the other were said not to be life threatening.

The latest fatality, the second this year, brings the total number killed to 88 since the UK started operations in Afghanistan in 2001, but the majority have died since Britain deployed soldiers in Helmand in July 2006.

Last Friday, the UK government expressed sorrow, when admitting failure in supplying basic equipment to troops first sent to Helmand after an inquest accused the MoD of betraying the trust of soldiers.

"This is not the first time delays in the supply chain have caused casualties in theater. I cannot promise that it will be the last," Defence Minister, Bob Ainsworth said.
