Six soldiers were killed and 10 others injured as the LTTE fired artillery targeting a church in the north- western district of Mannar on Tuesday, Sri Lankan military said.
The Tamil Tigers attacked St. Sebastian's church located at Taladdy, four kilometers from Mannar town, AIR reported here quoting spokesman at the Media Centre for Sri Lankan National Security.
The spokesman disclosed that the artillery barrage took place as some soldiers were engaged in cleaning works in the church for a forthcoming ceremony.
The soldiers were sent there as requested by the priest of the church, he added. On the other hand the LTTE has accused the army of mounting artillery attacks on the areas held by them in Mannar district. 'The army was firing from all its garrison positions in Mannar', they said.
