NORFOLK (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic cut the ribbon Jan. 14 on Building Z-144, a new 16,000-square foot two-story facility connected to Building Z-140 at Naval Station Norfolk.
"Building Z-144 is now serving as the new home for our Northeast Integrated Product Team (IPT) and is a key step in the eventual consolidation of the command's headquarters personnel into a single location," said Keith R. Barbish, deputy assistant operations officer, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic's Northeast IPT. "This efficient facility houses 90 personnel, has four conference rooms, and provides easy access to the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic Operations Office."
The $5.1 million Fiscal Year 2006 design-build project was awarded September 2006 to W. M. Jordon and occupied in only 16 months. The project fulfilled a base closure and realignment requirement to provide workspaces for relocated personnel or new Northeast staff.
As an integral part of the NAVFAC enterprise, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic manages the planning, design, and construction of shore facilities for the U.S. Navy from Maine to North Carolina.
