Multi-National Division – Center PAO
FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Coalition Forces and Concerned Local Citizens found a large weapons cache in southern Baghdad during Operation Yukon, part of the country-wide Operation Phantom Phoenix, Jan 20.
The cache contained more than 100 various munitions.
Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 502nd Paratrooper Infantry Regiment were able to find the cache with the help of local residents.
“The residents are moving back to the area and giving us information, because they feel safe now,” said 1st Lt. Daniel Stephens, from Brewster, NY. “They see that CLCs and U.S. troops are staying in the area to rid it of al-Qaeda.”
The troops are working closely with local sheiks and CLCs to maintain security in the area.
