Polish officials have grounded some of its military planes after the crash of a Polish military aircraft in northwestern Poland which killed all 20 people aboard, the press reported Thursday.
All CASA C-295M military planes have been ground pending a technical investigation of Wednesday's crash landing, Polish Parliament President Bronislaw Komorowski announced in Warsaw.
The CASA transport planes are used for the supply of Polish military bases.
There could be a shortage of supply for Polish military bases in Afghanistan and Iraq since many military transport planes have been grounded.
The Polish army has 10 CASA C-295M planes.
The CASA C-295M aircraft, with an air force general and 15 other members of the Polish armed forces and four crew members aboard, was approaching an air base at Miroslawiec, near Szczecin, shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday when it went down in a forested area, officials said.
The transport plane apparently clipped trees on its landing approach, crashed into a forest and exploded into flames, officials said.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the victims were returning a flight safety conference in Warsaw.
This was the third biggest aviation disaster in the history of Poland.
The black box of the deadly flight has not been recovered yet, according to Polish news reports.
