BAE SYSTEMS RECEIVES U.S. AIR FORCE CONTRACT FOR RADIO TESTING SUPPORT
24 Jan 2008 | Ref. 026/2008
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia — BAE Systems has received a contract from the U.S. Air Force to support a multi-platform radio test set for electronic warfare systems. The performance-based logistics contract is part of the Department of Defense strategy to optimize the total system availability while minimizing costs associated with equipment procurement, maintenance, and transportation.
The five-month, $476,000 contract to support the Radio Frequency Transmission Line Test Set at Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (WRALC), Georgia, will be followed by seven one-year option periods, totaling $5.7 million. BAE Systems’ support will include equipment inspection, repair, remanufacture, and reworking; spares replenishment; testing; field-service engineering; logistics; and asset and obsolescence management.
“As the first performance-based logistics contract at Warner Robins, this lays important groundwork in helping the Air Force achieve its transformation objectives,” said Fred Cross, program manager for BAE Systems’ Readiness & Sustainment group. “By working alongside our Air Force partners, we will be able to provide the men and women in uniform with essential, effective equipment at a low cost.”
The Radio Frequency Transmission Line Test Set identifies and isolates faults in communication lines on aircraft, increasing survivability and mission capability through improved communication and system performance.
BAE Systems opened a 6,000-square-foot facility near the WRALC at Robins Air Force Base in early 2007. The facility also provides product life-cycle support services such as software upgrade development and depot support.
Establishment of the Warner Robins facility follows BAE Systems’ signing of partnership agreements in 2006 with the Air Force Logistics Center in Ogden, Utah, and the Tobyhanna Army Depot in northeast Pennsylvania. BAE Systems plans to open additional sustainment centers in support of the nation’s military forces.
