40 Tamil Tigers killed in sea battle in northern Sri Lanka

About 40 Tamil tigers were believed killed in Wednesday's sea battle in northern Mannar seas in Sri Lanka, said Sri Lankan Defence Ministry.
Eleven sea-tiger boats that were suspiciously moving about close to Delft islet between Jaffna and Mannar seas were completely destroyed, All India Radio reported here quoting Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara.
The Media Center for National Security said Navy deployed 12 Fast Attack Crafts to counter the sea tiger movement.
Air force fighter jets and Mi 2 helicopters joined the Navy in the sea battle that lasted for about five hours.
One of the naval crafts was destroyed as the sea-tiger boats laden with explosives rammed on to it. Regarding the extent of loss to the Navy, the spokesman said that a search is on to assess the damage.
