PASCAGOULA, Miss. (NNS) -- Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert, Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, recently visited Sailors at Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Makin Island as part of a scheduled southern Mississippi visit.

Greenert toured the Northrop Grumman ship systems facility and spaces on board PCU Makin Island, a pre-commisioning amphibious assault ship, before addressing the PCU crew. During the all hands call, some Sailors were presented Navy Achievement medals or frocked.

"What these folks in the front row represent are the kinds of people we detail to pre-commisioning units," said Greenert. "What you all have to do is extremely important to the future of this ship and really to the future of the Navy."

Electrician's Mate 1st Class (SW/AW) Ricarte Paulo was awarded a Navy Achievement medal and recognized as Makin Island Sailor of the Year at the admiral's call.

"I was pretty surprised to find out, and it's totally overwhelming to receive the award from the admiral," said Paulo. "This wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the contributions of the crew."

Greenert continued his tour of southern Mississippi by visiting Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1 in Gulfport, Miss.
