CONTRACT BOOST FOR TORNADO SUPPORT

18 Dec 2007 | Ref. 396/2007

BAE Systems has been awarded a £324m contract amendment for ATTAC (Availability Transformation: Tornado Aircraft Contract) by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The contract amendment, known as ATTAC Phase 2, incorporates additional avionics, general systems and engineering support services into the current contract. This brings the total value of the ATTAC programme to £1.3bn.

ATTAC improves the availability of Tornado aircraft for the RAF, while saving the UK MoD £510 million over an initial 10 year period.
Under ATTAC, BAE Systems works in partnership with the UK MoD and the RAF, reflecting principles such as through-life capability management and contracting for availability which are set out in the UK Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS).

BAE Systems has responsibility for “depth” support at RAF Marham while the RAF carries out day-to-day flight line maintenance. Overall the company is responsible for ensuring that aircraft are provided to the front line when they are needed.

Since the award of the initial Phase 1 contract in December 2006, the joint team has achieved initial service delivery and are on track for full service delivery by the end of the year. In October 2007, BAE Systems was awarded the Association of Project Management ‘UK Project of the Year’ award for their excellent work in delivering the ATTAC Phase 1 solution.
