MAYPORT, Fla. (NNS) -- Guided missile frigate USS Halyburton (FFG 40), including embarked Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 44 Det. 10, returned to their homeport aboard Naval Station Mayport, Nov. 30.

More than 200 Sailors returned to their homeport. Halyburton conducted a five-month counternarcoterrorism operation under the operational control of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and tactical control of Joint Interagency Task Force, in the U.S. Southern Command area of operation.

"This deployment gained our ship and its crew a lot of experience and we played a major role in the indictment of illegal drugs," said Ensign Josh Kempinski, Halyburton's ordnance officer. "It's what we went down there for, it's what we did."

Directly responsible for five drug interdictions and the apprehension of nine suspects, Halyburton actively impacted drug traffic operations in the Eastern Pacific.

Halyburton transited tens of thousands of miles during the course of the deployment, traversed the Panama Canal twice, and spent more than 145 days underway at sea.

"I'm just glad to be back," said Shopkeeper 2nd Class Jason Cook. "I'm looking forward to spending time with my family and enjoying the upcoming holidays."
