BAE Systems and Malaysian Ministry of Defence Sign Hawk Agreement
05 Dec 2007 | Ref. 385/2007
Langkawi, Malaysia – BAE Systems and the Malaysian Ministry of Defence have today signed a contract that will see BAE Systems continue to provide support to the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s (RMAF) Hawk fleet.
The contract, a Direct Purchase Agreement (DPA), enables the RMAF to buy goods and services from BAE Systems, within an identified budget and under a set of agreed terms and conditions. This latest DPA, the RMAF Hawks have been supported under similar agreements since they were delivered in during the 1990’s, will run until 2010.
Doug Elliott, Head of Commercial, Hawk Support, who signed the contract on behalf of BAE Systems said: “This latest agreement will see BAE Systems continue to deliver a high level of support to the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s Hawk fleet. The contract will see us provide both technical and materiel support.
“The technical support will be provided in two elements; one will be in-country technical support through the provision of three highly experienced Field Service Representatives supporting the customer on their bases, the other will be post design services from BAE Systems sites back in the UK – including providing technical advice and amendments to technical publications.
“In addition to the technical advice we will supply the RMAF with the requisite aircraft spares, and assist with the repair and overhaul of aircraft equipment. We will also supply the RMAF with aircraft modifications when required. All this support will help ensure the RMAF’s Hawk fleet remains at the level of capability they require.”
The RMAF purchased ten Hawk Mk108 and 18 Mk208 aircraft in the early 1990’s.
