From Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/5th Fleet Public Affairs
MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- The Honorable Donald C. Winter, Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), visited Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) to meet with senior leadership and talk with Sailors and Marines Nov. 25.
Winter, the 74th SECNAV, visited Sailors and Marines in Bahrain during a recent tour of the 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR).
During an all hands call, Winter stressed the importance of Bahrain.
"Bahrain really provides a mechanism for the Navy engagement in this region, and I recognize that each and every one of you is an equal part and equal contributor to that activity," Winter said. "Having a positive engagement here in Bahrain is very important, and I am pleased to see the relationships between NAVCENT and 5th Fleet, and the Bahrain government and the Bahrain people are very positive."
Winter recognized the contribution of service members stationed in the 5th Fleet AOR.
"What has happened is an awakening," Winter said. "It's because of the perseverance and the very hard work that you and your shipmates and all the other forces out there, Marines, Soldiers and Airmen, and the impact that you all have had."
The SECNAV also assured service members that they were appreciated and supported by the people back in the United States.
"I want to thank your families back home for the support they have given you," Winter said. "One thing that has become very evident to me over the last year or so; one thing has remained consistent, and steady and that has been support of the United States military. People know, recognize and respect the contributions that you and your shipmates make to our nation and they appreciate it."
