
PACOM Sends Survey Team to Bangladesh

OAHU, Hawaii (NNS) -- At the request of the U.S. embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, U.S. Pacific Command has sent a 23-person humanitarian assistance survey team (HAST) composed of U.S. Marines from 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan, to the southern coast region of Bangladesh.
The team will conduct assessments to determine how the U.S. military can best provide assistance in the area. U.S. officials, including the U.S. embassy in Dhaka and the U.S. Pacific Command, are coordinating closely with the governement of Bangladesh on how best to provide humanitarian assistance.
U.S. Pacific Command extends condolences to the people and government of Bangladesh for the loss of life and damage caused in this disaster.
