FGS AUGSBURG, At Sea (NNS) -- Coalition warship German frigate FGS Augsburg (F 213) provided assistance to an Iranian-flagged dhow in distress in international waters off the coast of Yemen, Nov. 18.

Fishing dhow Nasrat suffered engine trouble and had been without propulsion for 10 days. The crew also ran out of food and water. Upon arrival to the dhow's location, a boarding team from Augsburg, a German frigate, was invited aboard Nasrat to assist with repairs and provided the crew with food and water.

After repair attempts were unsuccessful Augsburg towed the Nasrat 60 nautical miles to the Yemeni port Al Mukallah. The Yemeni Coast Guard was also on hand to provide assistance.

Nasrat's crew was a mix of Iranians and Pakistanis, fishing in waters off the Somali coast prior to their distress call.

Coalition forces have a long-standing tradition of helping mariners in distress by providing medical assistance, engineering assistance and search and rescue efforts.

CTF 150 is commanded by Pakistan Navy Commodore Khan Hasham Bin Saddique and is responsible for maritime security operations (MSO) in the Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden, Red Sea, North Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean.
