One soldier, 20 Tamil Tigers killed in Sri Lanka

One soldier and twenty Tamil Tigers have been killed in the embattled northern Sri Lanka, as violence continues to escalate in the island country, Army said in colombo Saturday.
"Five tiger rebels were killed and two others injured when troops effectively responded to an LTTE offensive preparation at the Nagarkovil forward defences in Northern Jaffna this morning," Indian national TV news portal reported here quoting Sri Lankan Defence Ministry statement.
Troops attacked a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam bunker line consisting of five bunkers destroying two, in the morning, army sources said adding no damages were caused to its own troops.
At Welioya in North-Eastern part of Sri Lanka, the defence ministry said the army brought down artillery and mortar fire on LTTE militants after monitoring their movements in the North Padawiya Tanka on Friday evening.
It said LTTE communication intercepts revealed that two militants were killed in the incident.
In Northern Jaffna, Army targeted an LTTE tractor ahead of the Killali Forward Defence Lines and in the ensuing clash killed eight tiger cadres on Friday, the defence ministry said in a statement.
In Eastern Trincomalee a soldier died in a confrontation with a small group of tiger rebels in Kadiraveli-Karakamunai area on Friday, the army said.
At least, three tiger rebels were killed and six others wounded in a confrontation with troops on Friday at general area Pokkaravani in Vavuniya, security sources said.
