ATK Awarded $5 Million Contract with U.S. Army to Manufacture Over 400 Enhanced Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setters

With Options, the Total Contract could exceed $10 Million
ATK Innovative Solution Provides Additional In-Theater Capability

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) was recently selected by the U.S. Army to manufacture the M1155A1 Enhanced Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setter (EPIAFS) which will provide additional in-theater capability for U.S. artillery units. Under terms of the contract, valued at nearly $5 million, ATK will deliver over 400 EPIAFS systems to the U.S. Army. The Army will also have the option of extending the contract to 2011. The total value of the contract could exceed $10 million, if all options are exercised.

"This innovative product will give the gunnery teams enhanced capability in-theater to set and fire 155mm conventional and precision-guided projectiles," said Bart Olson, Vice President and General Manager of ATK Tactical Propulsion and Controls Division in Baltimore, MD. "ATK will leverage over 40-years of experience in manufacturing electronic fuzes and subsystems and is honored to provide a quality product the U.S. Army can depend on," Olson added.

The EPIAFS replaces the M1155 Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setter (PIAFS) on the battlefield by offering the same functionality and features as the PIAFS and expanding its capabilities. The new capabilities offered by the EPIAFS include automated fire mission transfer over the inductive link and the ability to initialize the Global Positioning System (GPS) on projectiles such as the Excalibur and ATK's Precision Guided Kit (PGK). The EPIAFS will be used to set the fuzes on projectiles fired from the M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzer, M777A2 lightweight towed howitzer and the future Non-Line-Of Sight (NLOS) cannon.

The EPIAFS system will be capable of setting the XM982 Excalibur projectile, ATK's PGK and all NATO standard inductive fuzes currently in artillery use. The EPIAFS is a pre-planned product improvement to the (PIAFS) program.

The contracting agency is the U.S. Army Program Manager -- Combat Ammunition Systems (PM-CAS) located at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey.
