NORFOLK (NNS) -- USS Monterey (CG 61) hosted a change of command ceremony aboard Monterey at Naval Station Norfolk on Oct. 12.

Capt. Robert E. Oldani was relieved as commanding officer, Monterey by Capt. Todd W. Bostock. Oldani will be taking over as chief of staff for commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic. During his final remarks to the crew of Monterey, he expressed his gratitude for all of their hard work throughout his tour.

"You, the great crew of USS Monterey, have made my job remarkably simple, with your incredible enthusiasm and professionalism," said Oldani.

As commanding officer, Oldani led Monterey through a rigorous schedule that included supporting Partnership of the Americas, Neptune Warrior 06-2 and 06-3, providing air defense for the president of the United States near Rostock, Germany; and Riga, Latvia, and through a deployment serving as flagship of Standing Northern Atlantic Treaty Organization Maritime Group 2.

Bostock takes command of Monterey after serving on the Joint Staff, Directorate for C4I Systems (J6) in Washington, where he first served as the deputy division chief for the Assured Information Sharing Division (J6X) and later as the division chief for the Command and Control Functional Capabilities Board (C2 FCB).

"Capt. Oldani, I look forward to the challenge of continuing the reputation of operational excellence that you have instilled in Monterey," said Bostock.
