BAE SYSTEMS RECEIVES CONTRACT TO PROVIDE CRASHWORTHY SEATS TO THE FUTURE LYNX PROGRAM
11-01-2007
PHOENIX - BAE Systems has been awarded a contract by AgustaWestland to design, develop, and provide 140 S5000 crew seats plus 340 S3000 troop seats and interface frames for use on the United Kingdom's Future Lynx aircraft program. Initial deliveries are slated for 2011 and concluding in 2016.
"More than 30 years of experience in innovative design and dynamic testing to crash-type conditions has gone into the development of our energy-absorbing seats," said Don Dutton, vice president and general manager, of BAE Systems, Occupant Protection Programs. "We are proud to have been selected for this opportunity to provide increased levels of occupant protection to the Future Lynx helicopter."
The crashworthy S5000 crew seat with mission adaptive armor for the seat pan and backrest will save weight and provide end-users with more flexibility. The design incorporates a state-of-the-art five-point harness with a dual action rotary buckle, armrest, headrest, adjustable thigh and lumbar support, and a folding armored wing panel to increase the lateral protective area. The S5000 crew seat features field installation of less than one hour and provides maximum ballistic protection.
The S3000 rear cabin troop seats include state-of-the-art four-point lightweight restraints with a rotary buckle. The modular seat frame system features quick installation and removal of interface fittings from frames through the use of four quick release pins. The cabin seat can be installed in aft, forward, and side facing locations, allowing flexibility for different cabin layouts.
