DoD Identifies Army Casualties


           

 

The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died Oct. 31 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations. Both soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

Killed were:

Cpt. Timothy I. McGovern, 28, of Indiana.

Spc. Brandon W. Smitherman, 21, of Conroe, Texas.
