WASHINGTON, Oct. 22, 2007 – Two female U.S. sailors were killed, and a third sailor suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound early this morning in Bahrain, military officials reported.

The incident was limited to the three U.S. Navy sailors at Naval Support Activity Bahrain and is not terror-related, officials said.

The female sailors were shot at a military barracks at about 5 a.m. and were pronounced dead at the scene. The third sailor was reported to be in critical condition at a Bahrain hospital. All names are being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

Initial indications are the three sailors were acquainted, but the extent of their relationships and the details of the shootings are still under investigation, officials said.
