
L-3 Receives Award from U.S. Army to Supply Advanced Fuzing
NEW YORK, Oct 08, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that the U.S. Army has exercised a contract option for over 48,000 M762A1 Electronic Time Artillery Fuzes.
The M762A1 is an inductively settable, electronic fuze utilized by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps on artillery projectiles. L-3 has been in continuous production of this fuze since 2002.
"In 2006, L-3 was awarded an unprecedented fourth consecutive Commanders Trophy for its teamwork, schedule performance and technical excellence in producing the M762A1/M767A1 Electronic Time Artillery Fuzes for the U.S. military," said Joe Homko, President of BT Fuze Products. "We have had tremendous success in producing 1.2 million M762A1 in 56 consecutive lots, all without ballistic failure and with a remarkable 99.8% reliability rate."
Mr. Homko also noted the strong and growing interest by some U.S. allies in acquiring this fuze. "It is a reliable, low-cost alternative to upgrading aging mechanically timed fuze inventories."
