Netherlands boosts troop contingent in Afghanistan amid worsening situation

The Dutch government plans to send 80 additional soldiers to Afghanistan amid the deteriorating security situation in the war-ravaged country, the press reported here Saturday.
The troops will be dispatched to the Uruzgan province which is widely viewed as being unstable.
There are presently around 1,200 Dutch soldiers based in Afghanistan as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
Dutch troops have been involved in fierce battles with the radical Taliban militia.
The Dutch government announced recently it was to postpone its decision on extending the military mission in the wake of a spate of kidnapping of foreigners in Afghanistan.
