ABOARD USS JOHN C. STENNIS (NNS) -- Rear Adm. M. Stewart O’Bryan assumes command of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 3 in a change of command ceremony aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Sept. 26.

O’Bryan relieves Rear Adm. Kevin M. Quinn, who commanded CSG-3 and the John C. O’Bryan arrives from Norfolk, Va., where he was director of the Standing Joint Force Headquarters at U.S. Joint Forces Command. He served previously as commanding officer of USS Excel (MSO 439); commanding officer of USS Esteem (MSO 438); commanding officer of USS Gallant (MSO 489); commanding officer of USS Cole (DDG 67); commander, Destroyer Squadron 22, forward-deployed as Sea Combat Commander for Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, and as commander, Task Group 55.6 in the Red Sea in support of OIF; and as Chief of Staff, U.S. 6th Fleet.
