L-3 Awarded $44 Million Contract by U.S. Marine Corps

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 2007--L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Cincinnati Electronics (L-3 CE) subsidiary has been selected to receive a $44 million contract for delivery of Thermal Sight Systems (TSS) for the U.S. Marine Corps' Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV). Work on this contract is underway and is expected to be completed in July 2009. Additional follow-on contracts, if awarded, would bring the total potential value of the contract to $49 million.

The AAV Thermal Sight System is designed as a "drop-in" replacement for the existing sight with improved capability in nighttime imaging, degraded daytime weather conditions and battlefield obscurants. The system will provide the U.S. Marine Corps with a proven solution to protect troops and improve their ability to detect, identify and destroy threats from much longer ranges than ever before.

The TSS is based on L-3's NightConqueror high-performance imagers that have been selected as the imager of choice for new platforms, and as an upgrade to many existing legacy vehicles for the U.S. and foreign military. Currently L-3's sensors are in production or under development for autonomous missile guidance, weapons systems, reconnaissance and targeting payloads on a number of manned and unmanned land attack vehicles, the world's next generation submarines, surface ships, advanced manned and unmanned rotary and fixed wing air vehicles.

L-3 Communications Cincinnati Electronics designs and produces mission critical electronics for the aviation, infrared sensing, global positioning, and space electronics markets.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 Communications employs over 63,000 people worldwide and is a prime system contractor in aircraft modernization and maintenance, C(3)ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems and government services. L-3 is also a leading provider of high technology products, systems and subsystems. The company reported 2006 sales of $12.5 billion.
