BAE SYSTEMS WINS WORK ON COAST GUARD CUTTER MONSOON

08-20-2007

SAN DIEGO - BAE Systems has been awarded a $2.1 million contract from the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center for the drydocking phased maintenance availability of the United States Coast Guard Cutter Monsoon. All work will be performed at BAE Systems Ship Repair in San Diego and is scheduled for completion in early December.

The general scope of work, which is set to begin on September 26, includes hull and freeboard painting; repairs on the rudder, shafts and sea valves; hull and tank inspections and preservation; diesel engine repairs; and a bulwark installation.

The contract win for the Monsoon follows BAE Systems Ship Repairs' drydocking of the Coast Guard's High Endurance Cutter Hamilton, which was completed in June.

"These Coast Guard bids are competitive," said Al Krekich, president, BAE Systems Ship Repair. "Winning them positions us to provide critical support to the Coast Guard in their missions of maintaining safety and security."

The Monsoon, one of five Cyclone-class United States Coast Guard Coastal Patrol Boats, is designed to perform homeland security, search and rescue and law enforcement. With a crew of approximately 27, these patrol boats can travel at a speed in excess of 35 knots and carry a variety of weaponry.

BAE Systems Ship Repair is the United States' leading non-nuclear ship repair, modernization and conversion company - focused on dry dock and ship repair services for the U.S. Navy, other defense agencies and commercial customers. It has major operations in Norfolk, San Diego, San Francisco and Hawaii.
