Northrop Grumman Mentors Army Logistics Firm Under Defense Department Program

RESTON, Va., Aug. 16, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has signed a U.S. Department of Defense Mentor-Protege agreement with the U.S. Defense Contract Management Agency to provide hands-on guidance and development assistance to Joint Logistics Managers Inc.

Joint Logistics Managers Inc., known as JLMI, is a small disadvantaged, woman-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned firm that specializes in U.S. Army logistics management.

The Mentor-Protege program was created to help small and disadvantaged businesses compete more successfully for military contracts by establishing relationships with large defense contractors.

Under this three-year agreement, Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems sector will counsel and train JLMI in areas including business development, marketing strategy, proposal preparation, contract and program management, and quality control. JLMI is already a member of the Northrop Grumman team bidding to develop the Global Combat Support System-Army (Field/Tactical) battlefield logistics program.

Northrop Grumman and JLMI will also work with student interns from Virginia State University, a historically black college.

Since 1992, Northrop Grumman has assisted more than 90 small businesses under the program and currently has 23 active Mentor-Protege agreements. Northrop Grumman has received 17 Nunn-Perry Awards from the Defense Department since 1995 for its work with protege companies under the Mentor-Protege program.

JLMI, which was founded in 1999 and became operational in 2000, provides logistics services including warehousing, systems design development and transportation. Based in Prince George, Va., JLMI has 42 employees and operates from 14 locations.
