SEATTLE (NNS) -- USS Cleveland (LPD 7), USS Rentz (FFG 46) and USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) arrived in the Port of Seattle for Seafair 2007 on July 31.

Before their arrival, the ships made many preparations to transit from San Diego to Naval Station Everett then down to Seattle.

“We had to meet once a month with the staffs from California and coordinate with the husbanding agent to facilitate the equipment to allow the ships to moor,” said Operations Specialist 1st Class (SW) Daniel Feil of Naval Station Everett’s Port Operations Department, who helped with the coordination.

There are various activities scheduled throughout the week for the Sailors to participate in, but some plan to take advantage of being in Seattle and visit with family and friends from the area.

“I’m excited to see my brother and his family, because I haven’t seen him in three years,” said Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Michael Graham. “We’re going to catch up and I’m going to see my nephew, who I haven’t seen since he was a newborn.”

For some, the arrival meant preparing for the next evolution, which would be the “Parade of Ships.” This event involves the ships taking on groups and giving them tours while the ships pull out and cruise the Elliot Bay area.

“We need to get ready to show off the Navy to our civilian counterparts who embark on our ship that may not know what the Navy is all about,” said Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Dwayne Scott.

The community is also invited aboard the ships from Aug. 2 - 5 at the downtown Seattle Waterfront, Pier 91.

Sailors were pleased to have the opportunity to visit Seattle and will get a chance to not only show the colors of the U.S. Navy, but to enjoy themselves while in port.

“Our mission here is to represent the Navy in a not-so-typical Navy port,” said Lt.j.g. John Ivey. “The people in Seattle have been very nice and have welcomed us with open arms. I have many plans including visiting the space needle and to watch the Boston Red Sox vs. the Seattle Mariner’s baseball game because I’m from Massachusetts. I’m glad we get to participate in this year’s Seafair.”
