MND-B patrol struck by explosively-formed penetrator
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD — One Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldier was killed and another wounded when an explosively-formed penetrator detonated near their patrol during combat operations in an eastern section of the Iraqi capital July 14.

Units operating in this area of Baghdad continue to conduct combined clearing operations with their Iraqi Army counterparts in an effort to degrade insurgent operational capabilities. Sustained operations of this nature are designed to reduce sectarian violence and help set the conditions for the improvement of essential services, economic growth and aid in the overall transition of security operations with Iraqi Security Forces in the lead.

The deceased Soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.
