MND-B patrol struck by explosively-formed penetrator
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD — One Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldier was killed by an explosively-formed penetrator targeting a combat patrol in a southeastern section of Baghdad July 6. An interpreter was also killed and three other Soldiers were wounded in the attack. The wounded were evacuated to a combat support hospital following the attack.

Elements from this unit continue to conduct combat operations in this region of the Iraqi capital. During recent combat operations, Soldiers have detained a number of suspected insurgents. These kinds of ongoing operations are specifically designed to help reduce sectarian violence and to help set conditions for improving the growth of essential services, economic growth and aiding in the transition of security operations with Iraqi Security Forces in the lead.

The deceased Soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.
