VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- Cmdr. Patrick Blesch assumed command of Naval Special Warfare Group 2’s Logistics Support Unit (LOGSU 2) from Cmdr. Robert Gantt during a ceremony at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Va., on July 2.

“During the past two years I’ve had the privilege of helping shape what LOGSU 2 is and how we have improved our services,” said Gantt, who is heading to Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Norfolk. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone here. I know the proud and professional Sailors that form the backbone of LOGSU 2 will continue to make changes to better serve our customers, because they understand the importance of our mission.”

During Gantt’s 25 months in command, LOGSU 2 personnel increased by 67 percent. The command, which is almost six years old, continues to evolve to further support their customers: East Coast SEAL squadrons deploying down range. These Sailors come from a wide variety of ratings, including communications ratings, gunner’s mate, storekeeper, hospital corpsman, engineman, Navy divers, special operations parachute riggers, administrative ratings and several Seabee ratings.

“Under Cmdr. Gantt’s leadership, LOGSU 2 has exponentially expanded its capabilities,” said Capt. Chaz Heron, commander of Naval Special Warfare Group 2. “Every SEAL squadron I deploy is better prepared to accomplish the mission and successfully conduct combat operations thanks to the professionalism and training of the LOGSU 2 Sailors that deploy with them.”

Blesch, an 18-year Navy veteran, is reporting from Defense Supply Center Columbus. His previous shore tours include assignments at Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Norfolk and Navy Ships Parts Control Center (SPCC) in Mechanicsburg, Pa. He has also completed tours aboard USS Normandy (CG 60), USS Tennessee (SSBN 734) and USS Kalamazoo (AOR 6).

“I’m looking forward to the challenges this command presents as it continues to support the warfighter,” said Blesch. “Cmdr. Gantt helped build the command from the ground up to its current high level of readiness. Now it’s up to the command leadership and the Sailors here at LOGSU 2 to continue identifying ways to enhance our support to the warfighters on the battlefield.”

With a budget of more than $25 million a year, LOGSU 2 maintains a fleet of 850 commercial and tactical vehicles, utilizes a group of Seabees who continue to provide SEAL base camp support, manages more than 3 million rounds of ammo and 15,000 weapons and operates 35 facilities essential to providing SEALs with local training opportunities. The LOGSU 2 medical department supports more than 1,200 personnel and provides combat field kits, while the mobile communications department manages more than 500 pieces of secure communications equipment, which is essential to the operator serving downrange.
