SANTA RITA, Guam (NNS) -- Mobile Security Squadron (MSS) 7 Det. 73 conducted their annual Command Assessment Readiness Training (CART) at Reserve Craft Beach in Piti from June 5 through 9, to recertify their Sailors in preparation for their scheduled deployment.

The four-day exercise was part of their four-month training evaluation and certification.

Sailors were tested on their individual performance, knowledge of procedures and team work.

Successful performance in the CART will allow the MSS 7 detachment to resume deployment missions in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

“This training prepares them for the types of duties they are going to be seeing in theater,” said MSS 7, Det. 73 Officer in Charge Lt. Aaron Bergman.

Most of the training scenarios involved the use of 25-foot safe boats.

The versatility and maneuverability of the safe boat makes it the perfect craft for MSS 7 to use on deployment -- patrolling port areas, rapidly responding to hostile aggressors, extraction of captured personnel and evacuation of wounded service members -- according to Bergman.

While on land, Det. 73 Sailors trained on camp site set-up by choosing the best strategic location that will provide access to the water ways and defensive coverage.

They also performed training on the proper procedures for effectively maneuvering and administering entry control points, stationary protection points, convoys, raven missions, personnel protection equipment, weapons training and first aid.

The Sailors switched from position to position to become proficient in all specialties.

“That’s part of the team work mentality that grows from this type of training,” said Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class (EXW) Joseph Myers. “Regardless of rate, we learn each others jobs just in case we have to step up and fill in for our shipmates.”

The intensive training is designed to transform the Sailor into a versatile and mobile warrior.

“This is mission-essential training that prepares our team to succeed. It’s a learning experience for everyone, and we all benefit,” said Myers.
