Hamilton Sundstrand delivers first A400M production-configuration Secondary Electric Power Distribution Center chassis assembly

Jun. 19, 2007
PARIS AIR SHOW - Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), recently delivered the first production-configuration A400M Secondary Electric Power Distribution Center (SEPDC) chassis assembly to Airbus, completing a major program milestone for the Airbus A400M program. The unit will be installed on flight test aircraft MSN1 in Saint-Nazaire, France.

The A400M airlifter is a high-speed turboprop aircraft specifically designed to meet the needs of European NATO nations, and requirements of other air forces around the world. The aircraft is scheduled for first flight in 2008, with entry into service in 2009.

The SEPDC provides switching and protection for the A400M's approximately 1,000 electrical loads using Hamilton Sundstrand solid state power controller technology. The SEPDC also provides control of up to 15 utility functions.

"The A400M SEPDC is a premier power distribution product for Hamilton Sundstrand, and builds on our many secondary distribution and utility management systems in use and in development for various military and commercial aircraft," said Mark Spana, general manager, Hamilton Sundstrand Electric Systems, Military. "We proudly achieved this program milestone only five months after our first development lab unit delivery to Airbus, which attests to the joint commitment and program support by both Airbus and Hamilton Sundstrand."

Hamilton Sundstrand has also been selected to supply the A400M propeller system, Auxiliary Power Unit, emergency power system, and actuation, heat sensing and throttle control equipment.

Ratier-Figeac, France, a subsidiary of Hamilton Sundstrand, will supply the A400M propeller, the world's largest -- an all-composite, eight-blade, 17.5 foot-diameter propeller that provides twice the horsepower of a C-130 propeller. The first two A400M propellers have been delivered.

The A400M program is worth up to $1.8 billion to Hamilton Sundstrand over the life of the program.

With 2006 revenues of $5 billion, Hamilton Sundstrand employs approximately 17,500 people worldwide and is headquartered in Windsor Locks, Conn. Among the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products, the company designs, manufactures and services aerospace systems and provides integrated system solutions for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft. It also is a major supplier for international space programs.

United Technologies Corp., of Hartford, Conn., provides a broad range of high-technology products and support services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
