MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- Capt. Neil R. Parrott relieved Capt. Steve Greene as commanding officer of USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) (BHR) here June 14 during a ceremony in the ship’s hangar bay.

Greene praised the crew before he departed for his next assignment with Naval Air Forces in San Diego.

“To the crew of Bonhomme Richard, the true heart and soul of this ship, the men and women who stand the watches and do the work that makes BHR the renowned flagship that she is, thank you from the bottom of my heart,” said Greene who assumed command of BHR in August 2005. “Their actions over the past three years have been the daily source of my inspiration. Their achievements have been legion, and the reputation they have built for this ship is heralded across the fleet.”

“I am deeply humbled with this posting to serve as your next commanding officer,” said Parrott. “I am humbled because this ship’s legacy is legendary throughout the fleet.”

Parrott said he would like to publicly thank each Sailor and Marine for their support of Greene, and he asked for the same level of support as he takes command of BHR.

“I have no doubt that I am up to the challenge professionally and personally,” said Parrott. “I now know I’ll have my work cut out for me to keep up with this unique group of power hitters, but I stand ready to lead this ship and its crew to the next level.”
