BAE SYSTEMS DEMONSTRATES MISSION PLANNING AND COMMAND AND CONTROL CAPABILITY AT UDT
04 Jun 2007 | Ref. 158/2007
Naples, Italy. - A mission planning/command and control application for all types of unmanned vehicle is one of the capabilities being showcased by BAE Systems at the Undersea Defence Technology Exhibition in Naples this week.
Taking advantage of open architectures, increased adoption of commercial off-the-shelf technologies and company development work, BAE Systems is able to offer a generic, flexible mission planning facility which can be fully integrated within various platforms’ combat management equipment. On the stand will be both the NAUTIS and Spider command and control systems which will demonstrate the use of unmanned assets in mine counter measures and harbour protection scenarios.
The application can plan missions for air, surface and underwater manned and unmanned platforms, as well as controlling multiple assets simultaneously from a single console.
Paul Laity, BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) naval director said: “A single man-machine interface and a common interface for all off-board assets will generate savings on training and through-life support costs. In addition, the jobs of the command team will be simplified, as the facility will be fully integrated or embedded within the combat management system console. The application also allows the establishment of common interfaces for all vehicles.”
A paper will be given at UDT on the application of multi-role unmanned vehicles within an integrated harbour protection system on Thursday 7th June at 11:00.
