AL ‘AQUBAH, Jordan (NNS) -- Rear Adm. Garry Hall, Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 2 visited the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) on May 21, while the ship was in port in the country of Jordan.

Hall attended the change of command ceremony held on the ship’s forecastle where Capt. Peter Fanta relieved Capt. Donna Looney as Commander, Bataan Strike Group and Commander, Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 2.

“Nothing gives me bigger goose bumps than standing on the forecastle of a warship such as this,” said Hall. “She looks great.”

Hall took the opportunity to reflect on the ESG’s deployment.

“We’re in a wartime environment and the operations that you’ve been doing are absolutely fantastic,” said Hall.

The Bataan ESG is comprised of the Bataan Strike Group, commanded by Commodore Peter Fanta, Commander, Bataan Strike Group/PHIBRON 2, and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C., commanded by Marine Col. Gregg Sturdevant. Bataan Strike Group includes PHIBRON 2, Bataan, USS Shreveport (LPD 12), USS Oak Hill (LSD 51), USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), USS Nitze (DDG 94), USS Underwood (FFG 36), and USS Scranton (SSN 756).
