General Dynamics Awarded $18 Million Contract to Deliver VoIP to the Pentagon

FAIRFAX, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded a contract modification by the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS) to design and install a Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) solution for the Pentagon, to upgrade audiovisual systems and to provide security equipment. The modification, including VOIP, has a potential value of $18.4 million over three years. The contract being modified was awarded in June 2002.

Under this award, General Dynamics Information Technology will continue its Pentagon Renovation (PENREN) modernization efforts to survey, plan, design, install and implement the information technology (IT) systems and infrastructure for the design/build renovation of the Pentagon. The Information Technology Systems (ITS) Project Office for PENREN is working with General Dynamics Information Technology and the Defense Information Systems Agency to deliver a carrier-grade multifunction VoIP switching platform for the Pentagon that can support subscriber and network demands of the Pentagon user community. This includes all call processing support, multiple classes of service, priority service, required adjunct and back-office components and continued support for legacy telephony equipment. The latest award also includes work on several other projects for Pentagon tenant organizations.

“Voice-over-Internet-Protocol is the next step in developing a 21st-century, network-centric IT infrastructure for the Pentagon,” said Dan Busby, vice president and general manager for Army Infrastructure at General Dynamics Information Technology. “General Dynamics is pleased to have the opportunity to expand upon our record of success as we move into the next phase of the Pentagon Renovation.”

General Dynamics Information Technology was initially awarded the Pentagon Renovation contract in August 1998. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, General Dynamics was awarded an additional contract for the Pentagon Renovation in June 2002. Since that time, the company has received 100 percent of all available award fees during 19 evaluation periods.
