Microsoft and Thales join forces to promote Comm@nder, the new integrated C4I solution
14 May 2007
Comm@nder was launched during the IDEX defence exhibition in Abu Dhabi last February, producing an immediate impact on the demand for integrated C4I solutions in the Gulf region.
Comm@nder already incorporates Microsoft technology to offer a user-friendly and open solution serving decision-makers with interoperable communications, shared situational awareness, and coordinated manoeuvre and support.
Pierre Suslenschi, Vice-President of the Joint&C2ISR Business Line of Thales Land & Joint systems division, and Tim Bloechl, Executive Director for Public Safety and National Security at Microsoft Corporation, underline the main axis of this strategic initiative:
* coordinate efforts to jointly promote Comm@nder worldwide, with synergies to set up in each country to better address local requirements;
* develop common support tools and material illustrating the benefits of Microsoft technologies blended in specialised command& control information systems, from an operational defence and security user perspective.
Microsoft initiated a Corporate level focus on the global defence market in 2005 and, given the extensive C4I capabilities provided by Comm@nder and other Thales solutions in the defense and public safety markets, identified Thales as its first major European-based defense company to team with in worldwide sales. According to Bloechl, "We view Thales as an extremely capable company in the global defense business and we are very pleased to be working with them to provide Comm@nder to military customers. We are also excited by the opportunity to team with Thales on other solutions and opportunities in the future as we grow our business together."
With this global "go-to-market" agreement, a first between the two companies, Microsoft and Thales reinforce the level of integration of the Comm@nder solution, increasing flexibility, mobility and collaborative working between command structures at all levels; customisation and local support will also be enhanced thanks to the extensive experience of Thales as lead-system integrator, as well as the high-level of international presence of both companies in terms of communication and information solutions.
Thales is a leading international electronics and systems group, serving defence, aerospace and security markets worldwide, supported by a comprehensive services offering. The group's civil and military businesses develop in parallel to serve a single objective: the security of people, property and nations.
